Handle materials so as to protect materials, coatings, and finishes during transportation and installation to prevent damage or staining. If stored outside, the trim should be covered with a tarp to keep it clean and protected.ĬolorLast finished cPVC should be stored on a level surface in an area protected from the weather until ready for installation. It should be stored on a level surface before installation and protected from excessive heat. Unpainted cPVC should be handled with care to avoid damage. An airless sprayer or paint gun system gives the most consistent finish. The surface of the trim should be clean and free of debris like dirt, oil, mold or mildew. Sheets may be painted on site - use a 100% acrylic latex paint specifically designed to work with vinyl products. Once the sealant has set up, the hole should be sanded for a smooth finish. Nail holes should be filled with sealant designed for PVC products. Sealants and adhesives alone are never enough to fasten lattice sheets. Predrilling may be necessary in temperatures below 40˚F. It is best to allow the PVC to acclimate to the outside temperature before installing, and ideal to install when the outside temperature is 60-70˚F. Additional fasteners may be required.Įxpansion gaps of ¼” are recommended around the perimeter of all lattice sheets. Southern exposures receive more light, causing greater expansion and contraction. Sheets ½” thick or less should be fastened a maximum of 12” on center horizontally and 6” on center vertically.Ĭellular PVC contracts in cold temperatures and expands in heat. Sheets ¾” thick or greater should be fastened a maximum of 16” on center horizontally and 12” on center vertically. Staples, brads, wire nails, fine-thread wood screws or ring-shank fasteners are not recommended. Lattice sheets should be fastened with stainless steel screws or nails to prevent corrosion or the Cortex hidden fastening system. Fastener heads should be flush with the lattice surface or slightly countersunk. Fastener should be at least ¾” from the edge of a sheet, but no further than 2”. Routing should be done with a sharp, carbide-tipped bit.įasteners should penetrate at least 1” into a solid wood substrate. Do not use drill bits made for rigid PVC.
